Complete Heart Health Part IV: Is elevated cholesterol the only thing that can harm arteries?

According to the British Medical Journal, studies now show a connection with arterial health problems and elevated blood homocysteine. The American Heart Association also has information on homocysteine. Many medical journals now have information and studies on homocysetine. However, in 1969, when Dr. McCully first suggested that homocysteine may be a new cause of heart disease, he was shunned, just as new original ideas often are. Now more studies have emerged and we now can see the important role that vitamins play in promoting healthy arteries and a healthy cardiovascular system by helping the metabolism of homocysteine, “a new possible cause of heart disease.”

What is Homocysteine?
Homocysteine is created from the consumption of protein. For example, homocysteine is produced when red meat is consumed. Homocysteine is an amino acid, a protein building block that may be converted into other amino acids. However, if the levels of homocysteine are too high, is the health of the cardiovascular system at risk? The body requires nutrients such as Vitamin B12, Folic acid, and Vitamin B6 in order to process homocysteine.

The original observation was “high protein diets, more than fats and cholesterol, seem to be the prime cause of heart disease.”

Is it the excess cholesterol or the excess homocysteine from red meat consumption that causes the damage to the arteries, or can it be both?”

Considering this new emerging information on homocysteine and its role in arterial health, we now offer a multivitamin with correct levels of B Vitamins as identified in clinical studies to promote the metabolism of homocysteine, and help maintain a healthy homocysteine level. Many multivitamins found in stores, contain very low levels of B vitamins and would not be that effective for use for homocysteine health. In some cases, physicians use oral dietary supplements to lower homocysteine. A homocysteine test can be performed to identity those who have elevated homocysteine levels, and are not aware of it. A treatment plan should also be prescribed by the physician.
Res-Q Multi is a multivitamin specifically formulated with the right levels of nutrients necessary to help encourage the break down of homocysteine thereby encouraging healthy arteries by maintaining a healthy homocysteine level.
