Why Sleep Matters

In support of National Sleep Awareness Week (March 1-8), we at Res-Q would like to educate you on the importance of a good night’s sleep.

So many of us take a good night’s sleep for granted; In fact, many people glamorize how little sleep they get each night, as if running on only three hours makes them stronger or tougher.

Unfortunately the opposite is true. Chronic lack of sleep, by most experts, is now considered dangerous. In fact, “untreated sleep disorders have been linked to hypertension, heart disease, stroke, depression, diabetes and other chronic diseases,” according to the National Institutes of Health. (1)

In a recent report by The Division of Sleep Medicine of Harvard Medical School, “going without adequate sleep carries with it both short- and long-term consequences:” (2)

“In the short term, a lack of adequate sleep can affect judgment, mood, ability to learn and retain information, and may increase the risk of serious accidents and injury. In the long term, chronic sleep deprivation may lead to a host of health problems including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even early mortality.”(3)

The National Sleep Foundation recently polled a group of people on how they felt each morning. The reason being that this data almost always corresponds with the amount of sleep people get. When they asked readers how they typically feel when they wake up, the results were alarming.

“Over half of respondents replied that they wake up feeling "slightly groggy," while around 38 percent replied "exhausted." Only almost 9 percent said they feel "well-rested."”(4)

A good night’s sleep is crucial. And we at Res-Q strongly suggest taking measures to address any sleep issues you may have.

There are few options to address the problem. One such option is prescription drugs. This, however, tends to lead to dependency and a host of other negative health issues and harmful side effects.

Another healthier, safer option is Res-Q Sleep. It’s one of the only all-natural sleep remedies on the market today that works to address several specific sleep issues. It helps those who have trouble falling asleep and those who have trouble staying asleep during the night. It also works as a calming agent, designed to ease restless sleepers into a gentle sleep. And because it’s all-natural, there is no threat of waking up in the morning groggy or disoriented.

Plant Sterols and Heart Disease

In recent years, the Food and Drug Administration approved a health claim for plant sterols and heart disease. The FDA states that “Foods containing at least .65 grams per serving of plant sterol esters, consumed twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 1.3 grams, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.” A one caplet serving of Res-Q LDL-x2 With Niacin (Res-Q LDL-x2), contains .65 grams of plant sterols, taken twice a day with meals, equals a daily total intake of 1.3 grams of plant sterol esters. The FDA further acknowledges that “the scientific evidence established that including plant sterols in the diet helps to lower blood total and LDL cholesterol levels.”

Plant Sterols are an active ingredient in Res-Q LDL-x2. Res-Q LDL-x2 works in conjunction with Res-Q 1250 to promote good cardiovascular health by promoting circulation and cholesterol well-being. The plant sterols in Res-Q LDL-x2 reduce the absorption of dietary cholesterol and inhibit the re-absorption of body-produced cholesterol. Res-Q 1250 provides the proper balance of omega-3 fatty acids for good cardiovascular health. Since the total cholesterol number consists of both the triglycerides, and the LDL cholesterol, it is a good idea to take Res-Q LDL-x2 and Res-Q 1250. Res-Q LDL-x2 with Niacin is the first choice for complete cardiovascular health. However, Res-Q LDL-x2 is also available without Niacin for those who request Res-Q LDL-x2 without niacin. We recommend that our first-time buyers purchase our Basic Starter Pack which includes many extra Res-Q products for free as a bonus!

Res-Q 1250: A pure omega-3 supplement

Res-Q 1250 is a pure omega-3 supplement. In order to produce a pure omega-3 supplement, Res-Q 1250’s oil undergoes an extensive purification process to ensure that the harmful mercury and other environmental pollutants that are known to exist in fish in harmful levels are removed. Furthermore, to ensure a pure omega-3 supplement, the product is tested to ensure that it meets manufacturing specifications.

Fish may contain mercury and other harmful pollutants which is a concern when eating fish. Res-Q 1250 undergoes an exceptional multi-step purification process to ensure removal of the harmful levels of these pollutants. The proprietary technology of our purification process ensures that the strictest testing specifications for heavy metals, environmental contaminants and oxidative impurities are met. You have to be careful. Warnings have been issued by health agencies that not all fish oils conform with the industry guidelines, and some oils may contain the same levels of mercury as fresh fish.

Res-Q 1250 meets and exceeds fish oil industry standards for purity. A pure omega-3 supplement needs to meet manufacturing specifications for environmental pollutants to ensure purity. Res-Q 1250 meets exceptional manufacturing standards for purity, meeting current legislation standards of both European and American industry standards as well as Global standards.

Furthermore, Res-Q 1250, a pure omega-3 supplement, meets exceptionally high quality standards for purification of fish oils as adopted by the council for responsible nutrition which are: PCB’s are less than .09 mg/kg, lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic are less than .1mg/kg (ppm). This is a good test reading for an omega-3 supplement. Res-Q 1250, a pure omega-3 supplement, exceeds the mercury testing standards of max .1 ppm, meaning less than one tenth of one part per million. One part per million is a unit of proportion equal to 10-6 or .000001. The mercury test means that it is very safe, pure omega-3 supplement that is free of the harmful levels of mercury found in fish, and that you hear about on the news. Res-Q’s mercury test is truly the best!

More DHA for healthy babies

Omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA, play a role in producing healthy babies. Mom’s diet is so important to unborn babies, since healthy babies rely on Mom’s nutritional diet. Healthy babies also rely on DHA from breast milk. If Mom is deficient in DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, then the baby will be deficient in DHA! Omega-3 fatty acids like DHA, are good beneficial fats that promote brain development. In fact, the majority of the brain is fat of which DHA represents a portion of the brain. A new randomized controlled clinical trial shows that more DHA is better for healthy babies. As reported in medical news, “Investigators observed an 80% reduction in the proportion of baby girls with significant mental delays when they had a diet rich in docosahexaenoic acid.”1 Another type of omega-3 fatty called ALA, seen in various foods, and formulas, is not a direct source of DHA, the fatty acid used in this study. Babies that were delivered early were divided into two groups. Of the group of premature babies that received the high-DHA diet, the baby girls performed better on mental tests at 18 months, than those on the standardized diet. The better mental performance is linked to the breast milk from Moms that were supplementing with approximately 1,000 milligrams of DHA! However, to ensure that the babies in the high-DHA group received the same amount of DHA, a DHA-fortified formula was provided when needed.

Make sure that you and your baby are getting enough DHA! Res-Q 1250 is a high potency, omega-3 DHA and EPA formulation which is available in two forms: soft gelatin capsule or liquid. We recommend that pregnant women work with their physician regarding supplement intake and for how to administer to children under the age of one year. Although the women in the study had to take six omega-3 capsules, it takes only four Res-Q 1250 capsules or two teaspoons of Res-Q 1250 Liquid to get the same amount. The Res-Q 1250 oil is derived from open sea fish from the sardine and herring family, fish that are the best source of DHA. For quality control, the Res-Q 1250 oil is further refined through a multi-step purification process including molecular distillation and testing to produce only the best quality omega-3 supplement. Oils produced in this manner are stripped of the mercury in fish, and that is the only kind of omega-3 that is safe. Res-Q 1250, a pure and potent omega-3 supplement, can be purchased online at http://www.myresqproducts.com/ or by telephone: 1-800-26-ALIVE.

Am I getting enough magnesium?

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. Essential for good health, magnesium is needed for more than three hundred biochemical reactions in the body. Magnesium helps maintain muscle and nerve function. Magnesium is obtained through foods and/or supplementation.

Magnesium is sometimes found in certain foods at small levels that are far below the RDA. The RDA is a reference number developed by the Food and Drug Administration to help consumers determine if a food contains a lot or a little of a specific nutrient. If a food contains the minimum amount of what we need every day, then it meets the RDA number, and is listed on the bottle label as 100%. However, this is the minimum amount that you need to stay healthy and prevent deficiency. Extra magnesium may be beneficial for diabetics and those with heart-health issues, which is why many of our customers take three Res-Q Mg caplets per day. Therefore, supplementing with magnesium is a good idea. According to the National Institute of Health, “Data from the 1999-2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey suggest that substantial number of adults in the United States fail to consume recommended amounts of magnesium.”

Add Res-Q Mg, our magnesium supplement to your supplement regimen. Res-Q Mg belongs to the heart-healthy line of Res-Q products.

Recent news about elevated blood sugar:

Recent news reports on an observation that those with elevated levels of sugar in the blood, have poor mental performance.

Could this be the “sugar fog” that I have always heard of?

According to a recent article in The Washington Post, “Researchers found that patients with higher levels of hemoglobin A1C (a measure of average blood glucose levels over 2 to 3 months) had significantly worse results while doing cognitive tasks that tested memory, speed and the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time. Higher A1C levels were also associated with lower scores on a test of global cognitive function.”

The connection between mental performance and high blood sugar is yet another good reason to get blood sugar levels tested. Elevated AIC levels, common in diabetics, is the result of having too much sugar in the bloodstream due to poor blood sugar management. People with diabetes have problems metabolizing carbohydrates. The AIC test is a very good test to take to determine how well your body can metabolize sugar. The danger of high blood sugar is a good reason for people with elevated blood sugar levels to start to do something about it. Diabetics should talk to their physician about regular blood sugar testing, and a diabetic diet! Res-Q 105 MAX, a dietary supplement containing natural ingredients may be used as part of the diet to help maintain a healthy blood sugar level. Res-Q 105 MAX is a dietary supplement that contains a combination of all-natural active ingredients that promote blood sugar metabolism, a normal function of the body common to everyone. Maintaining a healthy blood sugar level can be a challenge, even when on a healthy diet plan. Res-Q 105 MAX can help maintain a healthy blood sugar level when used as part of the diet. Res-Q 105 MAX contains pumpkin pentose, a fairly exclusive ingredient that is getting recognized for its ability to support a healthy AIC level when used as part of the diet. Discuss use of Res-Q 105 MAX and the AIC test with your physician.

If I take a calcium supplement, do I need a magnesium supplement?

It has long been known that magnesium and calcium work as a team. If you're taking magnesium, then you should also supplement with calcium. If you're taking calcium, you should also supplement with magnesium. There is some research that suggested that taking a lot of calcium may cause magnesium loss. From diet alone, most people may not come close to getting a lot of calcium, because you would have to drink 2 or more glasses of milk and eat several yogurts to even come close to the recommended amount of calcium. However, if you are taking a lot of calcium from dietary supplements, then it would be a good idea to purchase Res-Q Mg, our magnesium supplement. Magnesium improves calcium absorption and utilization.

Which Res-Q products contain calcium?
Calcium is an ingredient in Res-Q’s multivitamin. If you are taking Res-Q Multi as directed, then you are getting calcium. Calcium is also an ingredient in Res-Q Trim System, a system of two supplements for the health of blood sugar and weight management. The relevance of including the extra calcium in Res-Q Trim System is to help our customers achieve a higher intake level of calcium which is associated with body fat reduction.

If I am taking Res-Q TrimSystem and Res-Q Multi, am I getting too much calcium?
No. We took into consideration that some customers might want to take both products. Taking them together will provide a safe, effective level of calcium. Res-Q Trim System and Res-Q Multi may be taken with Res-Q Mg. Res-Q Multi contains both calcium and magnesium. However, additional magnesium helps heart health. Therefore, taking Res-Q Mg, our magnesium supplement with Res-Q Multi may help heart and bone health.

Summary: If you are supplementing with calcium, you should purchase Res-Q Mg, the Res-Q heart healthy magnesium supplement.

How does the omega-3 in Res-Q 1250 compare to the omega-3 in "omega-3 oil spreads"?

Res-Q 1250 provides the proper balance of EPA and DHA, (omega-3 fatty acids) for cardiovascular health. In fact, most omega-3 fortified foods do not contain any EPA and DHA at all!

How is this possible, when the label lists omega-3?

The omega-3s in fortified foods is typically found in the form of an omega-3 fatty acid called "ALA." The problem with ALA is that the body must metabolize ALA. ALA must be converted into EPA and DHA.

So if the body converts it, then I am still getting an equal amount of EPA and DHA right?

No. You are getting very little, if any, EPA and DHA. Only a very small percentage, approximately 1-3%, of ALA can be converted into the heart healthy omega-3 metabolites EPA and DHA. Some research reports suggest that some people may lack the ability to properly convert ALA into EPA and DHA at all!

We looked at a popular name brand omega-3 spread. The added omega-3 butter substitute spread is not the right type of omega-3 for cardiovascular health!
In order to achieve an amount of EPA and DHA equal to a daily dosage of Res-Q 1250 (6 capsules per day), you would have to eat at least two huge containers of this omega-3 spread!

Summary:
It’s possible that healthy omega-3 oil spread could be a good oil to substitute for other oils, for use on your bread. However, don’t think that you can skip taking omega-3 as a supplement. Omega-3 spread does not provide anywhere near enough omega-3 that you can skip taking an omega-3 supplement. As far as obtaining omega-3 for general health benefits attributed to omega 3, it is virtually useless.

Platinum members receive 50% off the retail price of Res-Q 1250! Don't wait for a special limited time offer, call 1-800-26-ALIVE (262-5483) to always get the best price on Res-Q 1250 and other Res-Q Products!
